What "converting to dark mode" actually means here
This is not a screen filter and it is not your browser dimming the page while you look at it. The PDF itself is rewritten: the white page becomes a dark background, black body text becomes a light grey, and the file you download looks dark in every reader, on every device, offline included.
What stays the same
Page count, page size, the position of every word. Text stays selectable and searchable, links keep working, and bookmarks stay put, because the converter edits the colour instructions inside the PDF rather than turning pages into pictures.
What does not happen
Photographs do not turn into negatives. Every image is looked at and classified before anything is done to it — a photo is dimmed slightly and keeps its colours; only pages that are really scanned text get the full dark treatment.
Choosing a style

Questions
Is this the same as my phone or browser dark mode?
No. System and browser dark modes usually leave PDFs untouched, or invert them wholesale and turn photographs into negatives. This produces a new file that is actually dark, and works the same way everywhere you open it.
Will it still look right when I open it later, offline?
